Sudden drops in performance are usually an indicator of a GPU Bottleneck.

MSFS uses your VRAM(GPUmem) and RAM Memory dynamically. If no memory space is left on the VRAM, the memory will overflow into the RAM. This creates a severe memory delay, and therefore, a sudden loss of frames.

If you're experiencing severely low framerate (<15 FPS) at any airport is due to your system not being capable enough to handle the Scenery + Aircraft + Weather. You must tweak your settings to reduce the amount of VRAM consumed and avoid hitting a memory overflow.

We recommend playing around with these settings:

  1. Render Scaling: If your render scaling is anywhere above 100, you're forcing your GPU for no reason. You wouldn't be able to visually perceive any difference, but the GPU is working much harder than needed. Anywhere between 80-100 is ideal. Try 60-80 on lower-end systems.
  2. Offscreen terrain pre-caching: Low or medium is enough. Will not affect your simulator experience visually, and helps free up some space on VRAM.
  3. Antialiasing: Try different settings for optimal performance.

It is also likely that the GPU is not working in ideal conditions due to your GPU Graphical Settings. Try optimizing your GPU through NVIDIA's or AMD's software tools, and make sure your drivers are up to date.

If you're on a laptop without a MUC Switch, your GPU performance will be bottlenecked by the Built-In Graphics.

Halifax and Performance:

Halifax is a very detailed product, and therefore, requires a significant amount of VRAM. The product has been greatly optimized in the past few updates to improve performance more. A new version (V2.0) is currently in development and will bring extensive performance improvements.

Toronto and Performance:

Though our Toronto product is very well optimized, the Toronto area is very heavy due to the Photogrammetry, Traffic and airports close by.  Our product only accounts for a minimal amount of VRAM consumption in the Toronto area, and our tests show very good performance. However, if you have another addon for the Toronto area, such as city enhancement packages or addons for CYYZ Toronto Pearson, the sum of the resources necessary to render everything at once may be pushing your GPU and VRAM beyond their limits. We would recommend deactivating other products if you don't have a system powerful enough.

Calgary and Performance:

Calgary is heavily optimized for performance. However, there are a couple of settings that may improve performance further:

  • Terrain Level of Detail is recommended between 60-70 for improved performance
  • Object Level of Detail is recommended between 100-150 for improved visuals
